Foods that help your body stay young – No really it works!

Want healthy looking skin that screams stay young? There are definitely some foods that help support a youthful energy and glow that we all strive for. It’s a matter of knowing what foods you should include and what they can do to enhance your your natural vibrant glow. Luckily nature provides us with so many foods that are rich in vitamins and minerals that just do wonders for your skin. I have compiled a list of some of my faves that I like to include on a daily basis. Some of which I am sure you are using already and some may inspire you to try something new.

Help your body stay young

Hemp Seeds:

These little white seeds are rich in the same essential fatty acids that are present in skin lipids, hemp seed oil improves moisture and elasticity to the skin by lubricating beneath the surface. Unlike other oils that simply coat the skin, hemp seed oil’s penetrative properties dry naturally while locking in moisture and improving skin’s quality.

* Sprinkle hemp seeds on salads, soups or use them to cream up a smoothie.

Arame:

The nutrients in arame, a sea vegetable improve the elasticity of skin while the antioxidants and minerals draw toxins from the dermal tissue.  Arame also contains Omega 3 fatty acids, which reduces inflammation in skin.

* Arame needs to be soaked in water to rehydrate, then it can be used in salads, stir fry’s and sandwiches.

Chlorophyll:

Chlorophyll helps in combating the effects of aging and supports in maintaining healthy tissues attributing to the richness of antioxidants and presence of magnesium. It stimulates the anti aging enzymes and encourages healthy and youthful skin. In addition to this, vitamin K presents in chlorophyll clean and rejuvenates the adrenal glands and improves the adrenal functions in the body.

*Chlorophyll comes as liquid or powder. Use 1 tsp in your next smoothie or drinking water for an energizing boost.

Turmeric:

The curcuminoids present in turmeric are strong antioxidants. Curcumin has antioxidant activity comparable to that of Vitamin C and E. It is known to treat conditions of oxidative stress (imbalance between pro-oxidants and antioxidants). It also raises the level of antioxidant enzymes, scavenges free radicals that cause oxidative stress and inhibit lipid peroxidation (oxidation of fats present in cell membrane leading to cell death). So including turmeric in your diet can prove to be helpful in terms of supplementing your antioxidant intake.

*Shake onto coconut yogurt, tea, soups, stews and whole grains. Turmeric is also amazing in a homemade elixir with almond milk and honey.

Avocados:

Avocados are packed with vitamin E and B-complex vitamins that nourish the skin. They are also rich in essential fatty acids, which help moisturize the skin, keeping it soft and smooth. Avocados also contain vitamin C. Finally, avocados are typically low in pesticides and other harmful chemicals.

*Slice open and scoop flesh into a smoothie, salad, sandwich or just eat straight out of the skin!

Blueberries:

Blueberries are loaded with antioxidants, which save cells from premature aging. They are also rich in flavonoid molecules, which have potent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and gene regulatory characteristics.

*Perfect for smoothies, breakfast porridge or sprinkled on salads and of course by the handful!

Brazil nuts:

Brazil nuts contain Vitamin A and E that increase the production of collagen, giving you smooth and firm skin. There is also selenium present which is an incredible helper when it comes to anti-aging.

*Make homemade brazil nut milk or consume in a trail mix with other superfoods like goji berries.

Fermented Foods:

The nutritional value of fermented foods is enormous. As foods ferment the nutrient level increase. More specifically when foods are fermented they increase levels of B vitamins such as riboflavin, thiamin and niacin. Choline is also increased, which breaks down fat in the body and liver and helps with constipation. In addition, fermentation increases glutathione, an anti aging amino acid, and enzymes needed for digestion and detoxification.

*Start incorporating plant based fermented foods like sauerkraut, water kefir, miso and tempeh

Cucumber:

Cucumbers are excellent as anti-aging food and improve tired and dehydrated skin. The high water content and high amounts of silica present helps to get a smooth and glowing skin.

*Make a cucumber juice, smoothie or slice into a salad or sandwich.

Sunflower Seeds:

These are another remarkable anti-aging food. Sunflower seeds also contain Vitamin E and selenium that have very effective youth-enhancing qualities. Eating a handful of sunflower seeds daily will help you look younger, stave off wrinkles and improve skin elasticity because it is extremely rich in Vitamin E.

*Sprinkle onto salads, eat on breakfast porridge or eat in a trail mix.
